FTPEditor – FTP Client and Text Editor
The first thing you need to know about FTPEditor is that it is combination of two applications. The FTP part in FTPEditor indicates this application is a FTP client. The Editor part in the application’s name indicates it is a text editor. Let’s take a look at both halves that make up FTPEditor and see what the application has to offer.
Here is the FTP client functionality you can expect to get from FTPEditor:
- A visual, drag and drop interface.
- Easily open files on a FTP server
- Support for common FTP commands (like uploading, downloading, renaming, managing permissions, and so on).
- Connect to your servers using FTP over SSH or SSL
And here is the text editor functionality you can expect to get from FTPEditor:
- Open and edit multiple files using syntax highlighting
- Supports numerous scripting languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, and Ruby.
- Open, change and upload files on a FTP server.
- Work on multiple files at the same time.
The functionality FTPEditor provides is great – and to show you how great it is, I will turn to an example. Let’s say you want to edit a piece of text on the website you painstakingly created. Simply enter the location of the file you want to edit and FTPEditor will locate and open it. Then you can edit the file as you see fit; when you’re done, simply save the changes and FTPEditor will take care of the rest. If you need to edit more than one file, you can do this. As a matter of fact, you can edit multiple files at the same time with FTPEditor.
Before you rush of to get FTPEditor, take the time to glance over these technical details:
Download – the download weighs in at little over 2MB, which is good news. It means that even on a less than spectacular internet connection, the download will take very little time to complete.
Installation – you can install FTPEditor on the old but popular Windows XP, on the much avoided Windows Vista, and on the latest and greatest (at the time of writing this), Windows 7. Installing the app goes along smoothly and rapidly; it should not pose a problem as it is a straightforward task.
Limitations – FTPEditor is free to try, meaning you can use it free of charge only during a 15-day trial period).
